Druid Firelands set – the ‘look’

I was lucky enough to have the guild craft the 378 leather caster boots for me last night, and within five minutes I was complaining. I’m not an ungrateful druid, honest. They have perfect stats, now endowed with a delicious lavawalker enchant, and I’m very happy with them.

It’s just that… they have no toes.

So I reluctantly turned my helm back on, so I could have a critical look at the whole set. I don’t have 4 pieces of t11, but I do have 378 clones in non-tier slots, so this is the same look. I’ve got mixed feelings about it.

Things I like:

I also like the asymmetrical helm, and the tiny plant/fire details, especially in the helm and shoulders.

Things I’m a little more unsure about:

Come on. Tauren, trolls and worgen don’t even display the toe part of the footwear, so this toe-less boot thing is just for night elf druids. Thanks. I’m all for being at one with nature, but I think this just looks silly.

Things I hate:

:-(

I get what they are going for here, the white-hot centre of the volcano-tree-thing that is the druid. But it just looks broken. Maybe it’s because I’ve played with things like WoW Modelviewer, where the textureless objects are white, but this looks unfinished to me. Despite the other things I like about the helm, it stays switched off for me.

Some screens without my scrawling in case you want a better look (click for larger view):

And a small twirl for the cameras:

What are your thoughts? Am I really just an ungrateful druid?

I hate it. Im a female tauren and i swear it looks like im about to play American football with these ginormous shoulder pads on. (which in the current yellow look like erupting spots/boils) i refuse to show helm ever because i do NOT have a monobrow and i wear a tabard to offset the fact it makes even me look like i have a tiny skinny body :( the only plus side is the fact that the hc set is purple. I wants the purple lol.

I don’t HATE it, but I don’t really love it either. And I totally agree with you about the boots.

Fingerless gloves don’t worry me, but the boots do. A lot. :(

And! Thanks for commenting, I went over you your blog and ended up spending the afternoon following Sledders around! Your blog is great, I’ve been missing out in a BIG way not following it. I think I learned about 7 things in the three posts I read :-D

To be honest I’ve never liked any druid sets, they all look like they’re made for night elves and that just looks silly on a tauren. Now this tier doesn’t have that night elf tree hugger look to it, but its also meh. I used to not care, since you never saw druid armor (always in form) but now as a healer I can’t hide behind the bark :) I want a native american themed set that actually goes with the tauren look. Represent!

    • Glow Glow says:

Yeah wewhoeat, I generally have to agree that the sets have all looked designed on a night elf, which is a shame. So many of the helms looked absolutely ridiculous on me when I was a tauren. The textures look stretched, etc, etc.
I think the Thunderheart set was closest to a ‘native american’ theme – I really loved that on my tauren form. Though again, I turned off the helmet.

Ah well, I can stare admiringly at the gorgeous shaman in our raid in their tier gear.

  4. Jasyla says:

I never noticed the white glowing head. Does Glow have white hair? Or does it look like that on everyone?

I’ve sort of warmed up to not having a robe this tier, but I just can’t get used to the Barkface helmet. It stays hidden. I don’t have the boots yet but yuck, toes showing. Unattractive and impractical for dungeon crawling.

    • Glow Glow says:

Glow has dark blue hair. Maybe that’s part of why I don’t like it… it’s so dramatically ‘not Glow in there’. So I suspect it looks like that on everyone. Ah well, I haven’t shown my helm full time since… Ulduar. And I was a tauren then, but the simple moon circlet didn’t upset me.

Glow, I have never noticed the white head thing but now I will look! I’ve linked your post and also used your pic in my “Highlights of the Week from my Blogroll” post because honestly I have never felt more relieved in my 5 years of wow that I’m not a NE. Those shoes really look hideous on you.

  6. Kyzen says:

I’m not crazy about it, but it could be worse.

Please stop with the fingerless gloves and toeless boots. We are in rough environments fighting, not the mossy grass of our homeland.

Also, I wish the boots were wider at the top OR the shoulders a bit smaller. Those volcano shoulders make me look very top heavy since the boots are rather slim.

I don’t like my tummy showing, so I’m wearing a tabard.

I DO like the color scheme. I think it’s pretty and like that it’s darker. I don’t have the helm yet, but front facing I think it looks cool. The top down is definitely wtf? haha

    Overall I’d give it 6/10. :P

Hurray! the 4.3 gear look reforging will allow us to go back to some of the cooler looks. Exciting new feature and new gold sink for sure :)

    • Glow Glow says:

Yay! I’ve got a few old sets sitting in the bank, so this could be a LOT of fun =D And it looks like the Void storage will be a place I can put my old sets too. Druids everywhere rejoice!

Looks like a giant bird landed in your nest of a helm and laid a big, fat, bird egg… I hope you get a pet when it hatches.

    • Glow Glow says:

Hrm, a pet would be pretty rockin’… but what will be left of my HEAD?

  9. Deppi says:

I am just so happy not to have to fight in a dress, toeless boots are not a problem.

  10. Silverleif says:

I really like the vest and pants combo, good for wrestling with 50ft jaw droppers. But I’m really tired of clearing my first aid kit for all the dang toe burns I cop every week. The shoulders burn my ears and the helm .. well let’s just say I’ve made very good friends with a family of hygiene-free squirrels.

I can’t wait for transmogrification to give me back a feathered look. Mind you, I would really kill for Domo’s set. (Well, we did and I still don’t have the proper burnt look :( )
