Diablo 3 – normal mode cleared

He's dead Dave.

Last night we completed Act 3 and Act 4, and hence cleared the normal mode. As it was bare minutes before the servers went down, we haven’t had a chance to head into Nightmare yet, so looking forward to that for the weekend. Act 3 This continued to be lots of fun. It was split over two sessions of play, but it felt like quite a long act. Again, we tend to play by exploring every edge of every map, so we squeezed as much time … Continue reading

Diablo 3 – lessons from the warfront

header2

Onward through acts two and three! After a long day in the office, it was back to Caldeum for the evening. Act 2 continued The rest of Act 2 was engaging, with plenty of intrigue and ‘who will betray who?’. The desert theme continued, with added forays into sewers, caves and shadow sanctuaries…. so the environments were very reminiscent of D2′s Act 2, which was fun. Following on the theme from Act 1, there were also a number of random events/vendors/rescues/caves that we encountered, including a … Continue reading

Diablo 3 – first thoughts

Lut Gol... woops. Caldeum.

Diablo 3 went live yesterday, at local time at 5pm. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this moment for months, but I predicted to friends that it would be a couple of hours before we got in… so I was pleasantly surprised; I think it ended up being about 90 minutes for most of us to get past the character screen and into our instances. Act 0 – logging in That 90 minutes was pretty amusing. I switched every 30 seconds or so between ‘attempting to play’ with … Continue reading

BattleTAG and the loss of ‘me’ time

With the D3 open beta weekend a while back, I started a BattleTAG thread on our WoW guild forums and collected a handful of BattleTAGs. As guildies joined the beta we teamed up for a few runs together and it was a lot of fun. But it’s got me thinking about the whole RealID/BattleTAG thing again, and my continual concern about the lack of privacy that I’ve thence bought into. To explain more clearly what I mean: when I log into an online game, it’s with … Continue reading

Diablo3 beta thoughts

I’m a huge fan of the Diablo franchise, so Diablo 3 is a Big Deal. Just thought I’d better inform you that this blog post is totally biassed, before you go on. No beta invites for ANYTHING over the last few months, but after having it pointed out that my battle net profile was probably still reflecting my old mac, I suspect that’s why. I updated it to reflect my brand-spanking-new PC, but yeah, a little late I suspect. However, my partner does have a D3 … Continue reading

Hunting artifacts in Rift

Over the last week or so, I’ve been getting into artifact collection in Rift. I’d estimate I’ve spend about 8 hours or so riding around Stonefield, looking in caves, under rocks, inside fires… all sorts of nooks and crannies. The aim was ostensibly to complete all of the artifact sets of Stonefield. But I also had another, more covert aim: to investigate how artifact spawning worked, by concentrating on one zone, and trying to really get to know the spawn locations/patterns. Eight hours isn’t enough to … Continue reading

YAGGP

(yet another girl gamer post) Navimie at The Daily Frostwolf recently got me thinking again about the whole ‘feminism in gaming’ discussion. One of her observations was the she hasn’t seen much sexism in the people she plays with, and I’m currently in a similar position: the guild I’m with has always had a fairly balanced gender make-up and is comprised of mature/open-minded folk. The last couple of raiding guilds I’ve been with have been similar in that regard. But I have experienced a whole range … Continue reading
